Snowboards FAQs

I’ve never snowboarded before and am not completely sure about how to put my boots into the bindings. Any suggestions?

Yes. Sit down. It isn’t entirely difficult to figure out how boots should be placed inside of bindings, but it still can take some practice to do it right. By doing something as simple as sitting down, a snowboarder can save himself from a lot of potential embarrassment in case he would happen to fall down while trying to step into the bindings. It is just best to sit down and do it the first few times. Once a snowboarder feels comfortable doing it, it is fine to stand up.

Am I supposed to buy soft snowboard boots or hard snowboard boots? What is the difference?

The type of snowboard boot a person wears often depends on the amount of flexibility he or she needs when snowboarding. For example, a person who is doing just a straight shot down a hill does not really need much flexibility. Therefore, stiff boots would probably work fine. On the other hand, a person who is snowboarding on a half pipe or in a park may find that he or she needs more flexibility to do the tricks he or she wants to do. In these cases, sometimes snowboarders choose soft boots instead.

Can I go anywhere to snowboard and not be bothered by skiers?

Because snowboarding has become a much more popular sport in the last several years, a rivalry has grown between snowboarders and skiers. Often, these two groups find it difficult to share the same mountain. In order to appease their customers, some ski resorts have actually set aside special areas for snowboarders. Sometimes these areas are downhill slopes, but even more often they are areas in which people can practice doing tricks on their snowboards.
